Joseph Onyia is of counsel in the firm’s corporate and securities practice. His practice focuses on private equity and hedge fund formation, investment management and broker-dealer regulation, private equity investments and other corporate and financial transactions, including investments in emerging markets. Joseph received his Masters of Law in Banking, Corporate and Finance Law in December 2006 from Fordham University School of Law in New York, his Barrister at Law (L.B) in July 2004 from the Nigerian Law School of Abuja, Nigeria, and his Bachelor of Law (L.B) with Honors (JD equivalent) from the University of Lagos in September 2002. He also received his Bachelor of Philosophy (B.Phil) and Bachelor of Theology (B.D) from Urban University in Rome, Owerri Campus (Nigeria). Joseph was a law clerk at the law firm of Ajumogobia & Okeke in Lagos, Nigeria. Joseph has also been a legal intern with the the U.S. District Attorney's Office, Eastern District (Brooklyn) from May 2006 to Dec 2006, and prior to obtaining his U.S. law degree, at the Onitsha A’Diocesan Law Office of Nigeria, and at the Leo Libra law firm of Lagos, Nigeria. Joseph is a member of the New York City Bar Association, New York State Bar Association, American Bar Association and American Association of International Law. Joseph has lived in Nigeria, and is fluent in Ibo as well as English. |
